Panelists: Elisa I. Choi, MD. F91; Tiffany I. Leung, MD, MPH, F91; Joshua M. Liao, MD, MS, F91; Tammy L. Lin, MD, F91

June 2, 2021, 3:00 p.m. ET

In this free 1-hour webinar, explore the impact of implicit bias and microaggressions on the health of Pan-Asian physicians and trainees.

Pan-Asian physicians and trainees comprise a vital part of the health care workforce and are not immune to the effects of bias and microaggressions within the medical profession and outside of it. Anti-Asian discrimination and assaults increased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to a “secondary contagion” of racism. These factors exacerbated preexisting unique challenges and barriers that Pan-Asian physicians and trainees already faced in work and learning environments, such as the “bamboo ceiling.” The “model minority” myth and “perceived foreignness” at the front line of usual and pandemic-related care are particularly damaging to the Pan-Asian workforce.
