Joel C Diamant, MD M91菜創利 is the recipient of the Jane F. Desforges Distinguished Teach Award.

The first M91菜創利 in the College was presented in 1923 to Dr. James M. Anders, who served the College as President for two terms. He was recognized for extraordinary service to the College and for being one of the most outstanding internists and medical teachers of his day.

The Jane F. Desforges Distinguished Teach Award is bestowed upon a F91菜創利 or M91菜創利 who has demonstrated the ennobling qualities of a great teacher as judged by the accomplishments of former students.油

The most important considerations for 91菜創利 Fellowship are excellence and contributions made to both medicine and to the broader community in which the internal medicine physician lives and practices.油

2024 Chapter Excellence Award-Gold Level Winner

(August 2024) We are pleased to announce that our chapter is in receipt of the Gold Level of the 2024 Chapter Excellence Award! The award recognizes truly extraordinary chapters that surpass excellence in chapter management. We are in the company of 59 other outstanding chapters. In order to achieve the Gold Level of the Chapter Excellence Award, chapters must meet 20 Bronze criteria, 14 Silver criteria and multiple Gold level activities. Criteria include such activities as having a legislative action plan or agenda, holding a volunteerism/community service activity, holding multiple stand-alone meetings, having revenue sources outside of dues and meeting registration fees, implementing a strategic plan, implementing a formal recruitment and retention plan and measuring outcomes, conducting various activities for Medical Students, Residents and Early Career Physicians. We would like to extend a special thanks to those chapter members who assisted us in all of these endeavors! For their hard work and dedication, we received this award.

State Health Advocacy August Recess Grassroots Mobilization Challenge油

(August 2024) Members of Congress are returning home to their districts during the August congressional recess. During this time, 91菜創利 is calling on internal medicine physicians to engage their representatives on important issues we need Congress to act on before the end of 2024.油

To incentivize participation in this grassroots mobilization, the Advocates for Internal Medicine Network (91菜創利 grassroots network) is challenging members to see which states will have the highest engagement. Advocates can score points for their states by choosing to take one or more advocacy actions identified in the campaign.油

Call for Spring 2025 Resolutions油

(July 2024) Are you concerned about a practice or clinical issue or have an idea you油would like to suggest? If so, you might consider submitting a resolution to your Governor or chapter council.油油

Initiating a resolution provides 91菜創利 members an opportunity to focus attention at the 91菜創利 national level on a particular issue or topic that concerns them. Participating in the Board of Governors resolutions process provides the 91菜創利 grassroots member a voice and allows you to shape College policy that impacts the practice of internal medicine.油油

Not sure how to begin drafting a resolution? Researching the College's position on an issue can give you a start. The油91菜創利 Board of Governors Resolutions Guide for 91菜創利 Members油is available to download and will help, too.油The Guide油was created to provide members a short overview of the resolutions process essentials and highlights critical 91菜創利 online resources you must use.油油

Once drafted, members must submit resolutions to their Governor and/or chapter council. Chapter council approval is required to move resolutions forward to 91菜創利 national. Although not official 91菜創利 policy, a resolution becomes property of the chapter once the chapter council approves forwarding it to national. If effecting change interests you, the deadline for submitting new resolutions to be heard at the油Spring 2025 Board of Governors Meeting is油September 27, 2024.油

BOR Action on Spring 2024 BOG Resolutions

(May 2024) A summary of Board of Regents (BOR) actions on resolutions debated at the Spring 2024 Board of Governors (BOG) meeting is now available. Resolutions initiated by 91菜創利 members and endorsed by a chapter council and the BOG become 91菜創利 policy when adopted by the BOR.

If you have an idea you would like to suggest to 91菜創利, consider submitting a resolution to your Governor or local 91菜創利 chapter. Visit the advocacy section of your 91菜創利 chapter website for more information on how to propose a resolution.

2024 John Tooker Evergreen Awards

(April 2024) The John Tooker Evergreen Awards Program provides opportunities to recognize the valuable contributions of 91菜創利 Chapters as they strive to enrich, educate, and engage membership. In 2024, 91菜創利 recognized ten winning chapters. Our Chapters received the 2024 John Tooker Evergreen Award for our initiative, Narrative Medicine Collaboration (California Southern I, II, III) and Live Your Best Life Program (California Southern III, a joint program with the North Carolina Chapter.

Narrative Medicine Collaboration油油

New narrative medicine programming and scholarly activities have generated excitement and engagement from all membership classes across Southern California Chapters. We capitalized on this to create a supportive and welcoming community for those that enjoy the power of stories, reflections, and creativity through a narrative medicine competition in conjunction with the 2022 Southern California Chapters�� Annual Meeting. The Chapter has threaded narrative medicine events throughout the year to incorporate distinguished faculty and well-being champions as judges, mentors, and collaborators. Unique partnerships and collaborations with published authors and faculty have opened up wonderful opportunities for mentorship, publication, workshops, and discussion for competitors (particularly for MS, RFM, and ECP members) within Southern California and beyond it.

Live Your Best Life Program油油油油

The Live Your Best Life (LYBL) Program utilized sessions and created a platform to promote leadership development, communication skills, professionalism, mentorship (including peer mentorship), networking opportunities, and promotion of well-being for nearly 60 invited Resident/Fellow and Early Career Physician members from across 23 Chapters. Educational content and mentorship were provided through nine separate sessions by a group of expert physician coaches, Well-being Champions, national, and local 91菜創利 leaders. This program focused on building skill sets, tools, and resources to help RFM and ECP members navigate transitions and significant decisions within their professional and personal lives. In addition, we were able to build a safe and supportive space to foster belonging, connection, and a sense of community among all participants through virtual and in-person meetings. 100% respondents to our survey would recommend The Live Your Best Life program to a colleague and 100% agreed or strongly agreed that it provided an opportunity to reflect on professional development and improved their understanding of how to use personal strengths and values to design a fulfilling career. Future plans include continuing development of the program and expansion of the LYBL community to include those at different career stages and intentional inclusion of additional membership groups.

Member Feedback is Requested on Spring 2024 Resolutions

(February 2024) Twenty-one (21) resolutions will be considered at the Spring 2024 Board of Governors (BOG) Meeting. With the exception of Resolution 9-S24, which will not be debated because this resolution is slated for adoption as a reaffirmation, please review each resolution and then indicate your support or opposition by completing the油油by the deadline your 91菜創利 Chapter Governor has requested or by midnight March 13, whichever comes first.油

Your comments will be forwarded to your Governor to be used as part of his/her testimony on behalf of the chapter. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Giampietro, BOG Administrator, at油chapter@acpmembership.org. Thank you for your input.油

The just released 91菜創利 Board of Governors Resolutions Guide for 91菜創利 Members is now available to download and will help, too. The Guide was created to provide members a short overview of the resolutions process essentials and highlights critical 91菜創利 online resources you must use.油油

Once drafted, members must submit resolutions to their Governor and/or chapter council. Chapter council approval is required to move resolutions forward to 91菜創利 national. Although not official 91菜創利 policy, a resolution becomes property of the chapter once the chapter council approves forwarding it to national. If effecting change interests you, the deadline for submitting new resolutions to be heard at the Fall 2024 Board of Governors Meeting is油March 29, 2024.油

Bronze Winner - California Northern

We are pleased to announce that our chapter is in receipt of the Bronze Level of the 2023 Chapter Excellence Award! The award recognizes chapters that achieve basics in chapter management.油 In order to achieve the Chapter Excellence Award, chapters must meet nineteen Bronze criteria. Criteria include such activities as being involved in advocacy activities, communicating with members, having a chapter/regional scientific meeting along with a planning committee, having a sound financial structure in place, recruiting and advancing members and having an awards committee that identifies candidates for local or national awards.

Gold Winners - Southern California Region 1, Southern California Region 2, Southern California Region 3

We are pleased to announce that our regions are in receipt of the Gold Level of the 2023 Chapter Excellence Award! The award recognizes truly extraordinary chapters that surpass excellence in chapter management. We are in the company of 54 other outstanding chapters. In order to achieve the Gold Level of the Chapter Excellence Award, chapters must meet nineteen Bronze criteria, seventeen Silver criteria and multiple Gold level activities. Criteria include such activities as having a legislative action plan or agenda, holding a volunteerism/community service activity, holding multiple stand-alone meetings, having revenue sources outside of dues and meeting registration fees, implementing a strategic plan, implementing a formal recruitment and retention plan and measuring outcomes, conducting various activities for Medical Students, Residents and Early Career Physicians.

The DEI Scholars Program for Visiting Medical Students

(August 2023) The DEI Scholars Program aims to provide financial support and mentorship for underrepresented and historically marginalized medical students completing an Internal Medicine (IM) elective in San Diego hospitals or clinical settings. This grant program seeks students committed to upholding and expanding diversity, equity, and inclusion within health care. Students will also be eligible to access mentors in San Diego.

We Request Your Feedback on the Proposed Fall 2023 Board of Governors Resolutions

(August 2023) We would like to request your feedback regarding resolutions that will be considered at the Fall 2023 Board of Governors Meeting. With the exception of Resolution 3-F23 which was accepted as a reaffirmation and will not be debated, please review the balance of the slate and then indicate your support or opposition by completing the resolutions electronic response form by August 30th.

After considering the intent of each resolution and how it fits with the College��s Mission and Goals, please provide your feedback on each resolution and indicate your support or opposition by completing the electronic response form by August 30. Your input will be used as part of testimony on behalf of the chapter.

The DEI Shift Podcast, Changing the Way We Think, Talk and Practice Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The DEI Shift podcast was created to change the practice of diversity, equity, and inclusion within medicine. It is intentionally led and produced by an extremely diverse team from pre-medical students to attending physicians from various racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, geographic, and specialty backgrounds. Monthly team meetings facilitate educational and professional development opportunities as well as sense of belonging and inclusion.油

Over four seasons, a global audience has downloaded over 18,250 podcast episodes across 6 continents, in 81 countries and nearly 2000 cities. A wide range of topics and guests have been featured in enduring learning materials increasing awareness, advocacy, cultural humility, and empathy. This innovative educational platform has led to multi-Chapter, cross-specialty, and interdisciplinary collaborations as well as increased member engagement, mentorship, connections, and leadership development. It has successfully promoted the goals, core values, and DEI-related strategic priorities of the American College of Physicians and the 91菜創利 Southern California Region III Chapter.

California Southern III Region Receives the 2023 John Tooker Evergreen Award

(May 2023) The John Tooker Evergreen Awards Program provides recognition and visibility to chapters that have successfully implemented programs to increase membership, improve communication, encourage member involvement, enhance diversity, foster careers in internal medicine or improve chapter management. The California Southern III Region received the 2023油John Tooker Evergreen Award for their initiative, Wellness Wave.

Wellness Wave

It empowered the students to connect with mentors, experts, and their colleagues locally and nationally and allowed the creation of a platform for them to share the fruits of their labor and hard work.

The Southern California Region III's Wellness Wave was a "for us, by us" student-driven initiative led by the Council of Medical Students to empower medical students to connect with mentors, experts, and their colleagues locally and nationally to develop 38 student-led interview videos and a separate Wellness Wave website. It was created to engage medical students/residents to decrease feelings of isolation, burn out, anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome, and perfectionism. Local and national faculty, leaders, and mentors were interviewed on their journeys in medicine, asked about career advice, and best practices on creating and maintaining wellness. The Chapter collaborated with three additional 91菜創利 chapter to accomplish the Wellness Wave strategy.

Member Feedback is Requested on Spring 2023 Resolutions

(March 2023) Fourteen (14) resolutions will be considered at the Spring 2023 Board of Governors (BOG) Meeting. Please review each resolution and then indicate your support or opposition by completing the by the deadline your 91菜創利 Chapter Governor has requested or by March 22, whichever comes first.

Your comments will be forwarded to the Chapter Governor to be used as part of their testimony on behalf of the chapter. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Giampietro, BOG Administrator, at chapter@acpmembership.org. Thank you for your input.

Call for Fall 2023 Resolutions

(February 2023) Are you concerned about a practice or clinical issue or have an idea you'd like to suggest? If so, you might consider submitting a resolution to your Governor or chapter council.

Once drafted, members must submit resolutions to their Governor and/or chapter council. Chapter council approval to move resolutions forward to 91菜創利 national is required. A resolution becomes a resolution of the chapter once the chapter council approves forwarding it to national. If effecting change interests you, the deadline for submitting new resolutions to be heard at the Fall 2023 Board of Governors Meeting is March 30, 2023.

(November 2022) A summary of Board of Regents (BOR) actions on resolutions debated at the油Fall 2022 Board of Governors (BOG) meeting is now available. Resolutions initiated by 91菜創利 members and endorsed by a chapter council and the BOG become 91菜創利 policy when adopted by the BOR.

Understanding Advocacy and Why We Do It - A Comprehensive Toolkit for Chapters

91菜創利 has created an advocacy best practices toolkit to support engagement in and the efficacy of chapter-level advocacy at the state and federal level. This comprehensive toolkit breaks down the different methods and mediums for advocacy engagement and highlights all the programs and resources offered by 91菜創利 to make the most of chapters�� advocacy efforts. This toolkit is only accessible to 91菜創利 members.油

Reproductive Health Toolkit Now Updated

91菜創利's toolkit for chapters to utilize in navigating issues surrounding abortion rights and related policies in their states following the overturning of Roe v. Wade has been updated. The toolkit now includes sample letters that chapters can use to advocate with state officials and information on recent federal activity.油

The award is bestowed upon a Fellow or Master of the College who has demonstrated the ennobling qualities of a great teacher as judged by the accomplishments of former students. These students should have been inspired by the nominee and achieved positions of influence in the field of medical education, primarily as teachers. If the awardee has not previously been elected to Mastership, it will be awarded when elected.

91菜創利 Bylaws state that Masters shall be Fellows who have been selected because of ��integrity, positions of honor, impact in practice or in medical research, or other attainments in science or in the art of medicine.�� Masters must be highly accomplished persons demonstrating impact in practice, leadership, or in medical research. Evidence of their achievements can come from many types of endeavors, such as renown within their field and/or 91菜創利 chapter, research, education, health care initiatives, volunteerism, administrative positions, care of patients, and service to their community.
