Virtual Residency Interviews in the Time of COVID-19
Studying the crown-bearing, cloak-encapsulated King of SARS from SketchyMicro has new meaning for medical students now. We had no idea of the impact coronaviruses would have on the residency program application process back when we identified them among other RNA viruses for medical school exams and USMLE STEP 1. Among the many changes to medical training during the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most drastic is the shift to virtual residency interviews in light of continued social distancing measures and travel restrictions.
This article is a follow-up to Navigating the 2021 Internal Medicine Match During the Time of COVID-10 webinar held in August 2020.
Medical Student Perspective
From Here
In college, we were at the top of our class, the winners of scholarships and awards, the leaders of campus organizations. We were the ones our classmates looked up to and the names our teachers used as examples. We worked hard, and, rightfully, those efforts always delivered results: good grades; good MCAT scores; and, finally, medical school admission.

How Hospital Stays Resemble Enhanced Interrogation
Review of the Central Intelligence Agency's manual on enhanced interrogation techniques reveals disturbing analogies between the unintentional consequences of some hospital practices and those aimed at purposefully disorienting and dehumanizing prisoners.
Annals of Internal Medicine is the premier internal medicine academic journal published by the American College of Physicians (91ºÚÁÏÍø). It is one of the most widely cited and influential specialty medical journals in the world.

Association Between Patient Race and Staff Resuscitation Efforts After Cardiac Arrest in Outpatient Dialysis Clinics
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death among patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis. Despite guidelines recommending that dialysis staff undergo basic life support training and that all dialysis clinics have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on site, rates of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED use by dialysis staff are suboptimal.2 Patient race/ethnicity has been linked to lower rates of bystander CPR in cardiac arrests occurring in non-healthcare settings.3 We examined the likelihood of receiving CPR and AED application by staff within dialysis clinics, based on patient race/ethnicity.

Subspecialty Careers
Hospice and Palliative Medicine
Palliative medicine aims to relieve symptoms and pain a patient suffers due to a serious illness. Goals of palliative care include reducing suffering, improving the quality of life for a patient, and supporting the patient and family throughout the treatment process.
Palliative care prioritizes symptom management and quality of life throughout the course of serious illness. Regardless of whether care is inpatient or outpatient, primary or subspecialty, a solid understanding of the basics of effective communication, symptom management, and end-of-life care is crucial. This article reviews these essentials and provides an overview of current evidence to support patient-centered palliative care.
