Reflections on Leadership Day 2019
In May, over 400 91黑料网 members gathered in Washington, D.C., to advocate on behalf of physicians and patients from all over the country. The two-day event featured opportunities to learn about 91黑料网's public policy priorities and engage with congressional lawmakers by sharing personal experiences.

A pit in my stomach was slowly forming as I sat through the Leadership Day workshops before marching on Capitol Hill with 91黑料网. Although I was being briefed on how to address the College's key priority issues with my state representatives, I was unsure how I could use my limited biomedical experiences to connect with legislatures and staffers.

This year, Leadership Day participants took part in 415 meetings on Capitol Hill, many with congressional staffers and 96 sessions with members of Congress.

Implementation of a Medical Student-Led Emergency Absentee Ballot Voting Initiative at an Urban Tertiary Care University Hospital
Medical and allied health professionals are in a unique position to advocate for vulnerable patients. Students at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) launched an emergency absentee ballot voting initiative for the 2018 election, affording hospitalized patients (and their family members/support persons) the opportunity to vote despite acute hospitalization.

Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease (typically referred to as 鈥渃ardiology鈥) focuses on prevention, diagnosis, and management of disorders of the cardiovascular system. Management of risk factors for cardiovascular disease prevention, and early diagnosis and intervention for established disease are important elements of cardiology.
High blood pressure (BP) is the leading risk factor for morbidity and mortality around the globe. Approximately 1 billion persons worldwide have a systolic BP above 140 mm Hg, and 3.5 billion have a BP above the ideal level of 115/75 mm Hg.
