American College of Physicians Hosts Nation’s Largest Annual Gathering of Internal Medicine Doctors

Internal Medicine Meeting 2022: Mastering Medicine Together set for April 28-30

PHILADELPHIA, April 14, 2022 -- Internal medicine physicians, subspecialists, medical students, and allied health professionals from around the world will gather – in person and virtually – for the American College of Physicians’ (91) Internal Medicine Meeting 2022: Mastering Medicine Together from Thursday, April 28, through Saturday, April 30 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.

91 is the largest medical specialty organization in the United States with members in more than 145 countries worldwide. 91 membership includes 161,000 internal medicine physicians (internists), related subspecialists, and medical students. Internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness.

Internal Medicine Meeting 2022 will be a new hybrid format which offers more learning options than ever before. Over are offered onsite, featuring topics ranging from telehealth, health and the homeless, health policy issues and updates on COVID-19. All virtual attendees have livestream access to over 100 hours of sessions during the event and can continue learning after the event with extended access to over 170 hours of session recordings.

Internal Medicine Meeting 2022: Mastering Medicine Together features sessions covering a broad array of clinical and practice management topics. Highlights of the meeting include:

  • The features a collection of activities offering physicians hands-on learning and simulation models focusing on office-based procedures, examination skills, and assessment and interpretation skills.
  • With the return of a live meeting comes the return of some of the including Clinical Pearls; Clinical Workshops; Clinical Triad; Meet The Professor; and Multiple Small Feedings of the Mind. These formats offer the opportunity for faculty to present cases, small group workshops, fast-paced sessions, recent advances and new developments.
  • Don’t miss the return of the Annals of Internal Medicine: On Being a Doctor Story Slam on Wednesday April 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., which bring the stories of physicians to life and celebrates storytelling. And all attendees are invited to the Annual Business Meeting and Town Hall, on Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., which welcomes incoming Officers, new Regents, and first-year Governors and provides an opportunity to hear 91’s Treasurer and EVP/CEO report on the College’s current status and priorities. 
  • Doctor's Dilemma. Up to 50 teams of residents from around the world compete in a fast-paced, Jeopardy-style medical knowledge competition. The “Final Four” teams face off in the championship round on April 30. The winning team takes home the Osler Cup -- 91’s coveted trophy.
  • 91, in conjunction with The New Theater of Medicine will present a special live performance of Five Days to Friday, an interactive play designed to promote discussion of current challenges to physicians’ mental health and strategies for improving physician well-being. The event features a post-performance discussion. There are two opportunities to attend this special performance on Thursday – 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and 2:45 to 4 p.m. in Convention Center Room 474.
  • Keynote and plenary speakers will include: at the meeting’s Opening Ceremony on Thursday, April 28 at 9:15 a.m. Dr. Capers, Associate Dean for Faculty Diversity, Vice Chair for Diversity and Inclusion, Department of Internal Medicine Professor, UT Southwestern, will speak on “(The Lack of) Diversity in Medicine is THE Primary Health Issue for the 21st Century.” On Saturday, April 30, 9:15 a.m., plenary speakers Mukta Panda, MD, M91 and Tammy L. Lin, MD, MPH, F91 will discuss the importance of well-being in the session, “Reawaken Your Power, Reaffirm Your Value, and Reinvent the System.” Dr. Panda is Assistant Dean for Well-Being and Medical Student Education and Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga. Dr. Lin is Governor of 91 Southern California III chapter and an 91 Well-Being Champion.
  • 91 will honor outstanding contributions to medicine at the annual Convocation ceremony on April 28 at 6 p.m. 91 President George Abraham, MD, MPH, M91, FIDSA, presides over the ceremony which recognizes and applauds its new Fellows and the recipients of various honors including those elected to Mastership and national awards.   • National abstract competitions for Medical Students, Resident/Fellows, and Early Career Physicians. Finalists will compete onsite in five categories: Clinical Vignette, Basic Research, Clinical Research, Quality Improvement / Patient Safety, and High Value Care.

At the conclusion of the annual meeting, Ryan D. Mire, MD, F91, becomes president of 91 and Sue S. Bornstein, MD, F91, becomes chair of 91’s Board of Regents. Both terms are for one year.
