Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your families!
As we hustle our way through this busy holiday season of gatherings and end-of-year activities (can we stop with the insulin formulary switches already?) I hope that you all are able to spend quality time with your loved ones and in reflection as we approach 2025.
We're going to have a big year as a chapter. I'm excited to announce the start of our virtual doctor's lounge in January 2025. We'll have periodic Zoom meetings with various specialists. It will be a back and forth where we can discuss cases and topics of interest with the goal of improving collaboration among specialties. Not only is this intended to improve our recognition of disease states but also to empower us to work up and manage conditions appropriate to our level of training. Our first meeting will be with my go-to urology referral Dr. Cameron Charchenko. Dr. Charchenko is not only a talented surgeon but he's a great clinician as well. I learn something from him every time we visit. We'll set a date once Dr. Charchenko and I get our call schedules for January figured out.
2025 is a legislative session year for North Dakota. There are more bills affecting medicine and medical practice each session, even at the state level. We are forming an advocacy committee to help monitor these bills and work to inform legislators. Please let me know if you're interested. We work closely with the North Dakota Medical Association and the staff there does much of the monitoring. The intent of the advocacy committee isn't to be in the Capitol every day of the session but to help coordinate our advocacy efforts with the NDMA. Even if you aren't interested in being on a committee, please let us know if you have any legislative contacts. We all listen to those we know more than those we don't.
We are also going to ramp up our regional outreach this year and plan membership drives and events outside of the Fargo area. If you're interested in being a regional ambassador, please let me know.
I'm excited for the prospects that 2025 brings for our chapter. But first, let us take these last few weeks of 2024 to relax, reflect, and recharge.
Best wishes,
Josh
