Governor's Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is spring and it feels to me like we are stepping out of a cave after a two-year hibernation. What a relief to be on this side of our last pandemic surge! I was recently attending on our inpatient resident service when we admitted a patient with respiratory failure associated with diffuse pulmonary infiltrates and the Covid tests were NEGATIVE. My team of trainees had never worked when not every patient with such a presentation was not Covid! It was refreshing to observe them ponder a broader list of differential diagnoses for sure.

Our Governor's Council met virtually March 30 and discussed the resolutions you had the opportunity to comment on. Our awesome treasurer Brad Bergman reviewed our finances which are strong, in part because our membership is holding well and because our costs have been lower over the past two years due to the chapter and leadership day meetings which have been virtual. We all have been moved by the devastation that the Ukrainian people have suffered and decided that a worthy use of our funds was to donate $5000 to Doctors Without Borders to assist them with the important work they are doing there. My thoughts go out to those brave people who are there providing assistance and hope this gift will help at least a little.

I have just attended the spring meeting of the Board of Governors which was held in person for the first time since September 2019. A large part of the meeting was focused on the loss of membership that regularly occurs within our early career colleagues after the first 5 years of completion of residency and hopefully some of our ideas can help. We reviewed the resolutions (in detail!) and I invite you to go through those on the on 91黑料网 website. I am proud that our chapter again was awarded the Gold Star for our multiple accomplishments.

I also attended the Annual Session held for the first time in 3 years in person. It was so enjoyable to see friends and acquaintances I have not seen for a long time! The scientific sessions I was in were great as usual and I return much more rejuvenated than I ever did from a virtual experience. I was also very proud to observe our internal medicine resident Jaclyn Nguyen present her poster on 鈥淕ustatory Hyperhidrosis in the Setting of T1DM鈥.

We have had other activities within our chapter. Pam Hiebert was honored on behalf of Women in Medicine last fall and continues her work this spring with events for WWAMI students. Kat Dietrich hosted a very well attended Women and Wine event in Billings this April. Our residency had a very successful match and are looking forward to graduating our sixth class this June.

Going forward, we will be electing our next Governor-elect who will start next spring to prepare for taking over for me in 2024. Please watch your emails and participate with your vote! Lastly, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the work that our executive director Carrie Reisig does on our behalf! It was very clear in Chicago how much she is regarded by her national peers, and we are so fortunate to have her keeping the chapter on track.

In closing I want to express my appreciation for all that you have done and continue to do on behalf of our Montana people. Your work has been so important during this pandemic and the stars of my colleagues in 91黑料网 have never shown brighter! Thank you for all that you do.
