The F91ºÚÁÏÍø credential carries significant value because it is a peer-reviewed, peer-supported honor. 91ºÚÁÏÍø Fellowship recognizes ongoing dedication to the profession of internal medicine, the patients we care for, and the communities we serve. 91ºÚÁÏÍø Convocation 2023
The Caribbean Chapter of the American College of Physicians was proud to be represented at the 2023 Convocation Ceremony by Dr. Karen Galloway-Blake, B.Sc. (Hons), M.B.B.S. (UWI), D.M. (Int.Med), PgDip (Resp), PgCert (Healthcare Admin), F91ºÚÁÏÍø, who was admitted to fellowship. Dr. Galloway-Blake was led in the convocation by Chapter Governor. Prof. Everard Barton.
Internal Medicine remains the backbone of adult Healthcare and I smile going to work everyday to continue to do the best for my patients. I am passionate about my job and Internal Medicine and continue to strive for more professional growth and was truly humbled and honored to have been elected as a Fellow in the American College of Physicians in 2022 and was grateful to be able to celebrate with colleagues and mentors at the just concluded 91ºÚÁÏÍø 2023 Conference in San Diego. I continue to balance my work life alongside my family life and remain ever so grateful for support that I have received thus far. I get to work with some awesome colleagues and remain focused on the task at hand.
Health Screening and Outreach
91ºÚÁÏÍø Caribbean Chapter members conducted screenings for chronic non-communicable disease risk factors in four locations across Jamaica — Kingston, Portland, St. Mary and St. Ann. Over 400 patients were screened across all locations. In particular patients were screened for hypertension, diabetes and renal disease.

Dr. Purcel Anderson, F91ºÚÁÏÍø, delivered a presentation on healthy lifestyles for men at a local church in Bermuda
Grand Rounds
The 91ºÚÁÏÍø Caribbean Chapter hosted a Virtual Grand Rounds in December 2022 with presenters from the Bahamas presenting clinical cases. The presenters were Dr. Aysiea Lewis, A Case of Hemoptysis in a Middle Aged Bahamian Male; Dr. Kenville Lockhart, A case of Decompensated Congestive Heart Failure in a Middle Aged Hypertensive Diabetic Female; and Rr. Runako Minnis, Presentation of Ascites in a Middle-Aged Female. The grand rounds welcomed 66 attendees from across the region.
The first Regional Grand Rounds of 2023 was held in March and was attended by 121 attendees. Presenters included residents Dr. Kieyn Brizan and Dr. Abigail Palma.
Global Physician Scholar Program Accepting Applications
Chapter Governor, Prof. Everard Barton, invites resident members of the chapter to apply for the Global Physician Scholar Program (GPS) for the 2023-2024 year. The GPS program provides an opportunity for early/mid-career physicians from outside of the U.S. and Canada a one-month experience to enhance the prevention, diagnosis, and/or management of clinical issues in Internal Medicine and the subspecialties. Residents and fellows-in-training from international chapters will also be considered. Applications are being accepted until August 1, 2023.
Why should you apply?
- Scholars participate in a one-month program at an academic medical institution in the United States of Canada
- Engage in individual/group clinical and educational experiences
- Implement an independent project in your home country post-GPS
- Connect with fellow Scholars from around the world
- Attend the 2024 Internal Medicine Meeting with complimentary registration; scholars are also highlighted multiple times during the meeting

91ºÚÁÏÍø Announces Annual Awards to Recognize Inspirational Global Members
The American College of Physicians (91ºÚÁÏÍø) established two new awards aimed at the global membership, which includes 23,000 members from 159 countries, and 17 Chapters. These new awards recognize distinguished achievements and are intended to acknowledge:
- Involvement with 91ºÚÁÏÍø and contributions beyond a single institution
- Role modeling of innovation in clinical care, medical education, clinical research, public service, health education, and/or applicable contribution (e.g., mentorship of students, trainees, peers locally and globally; enhancing curriculum development; etc.).
- Promotion of health equity
- Examples of such contributions include efforts to address health care disparities, initiation of educational programs geared to patients, or design of community-based programs emphasizing compassion and quality care
